Beyond the Session: Effective Use of Skills Coaching with Clients

Price

Duration

1 hr Webinar

About the Course

Phone coaching in DBT is one of the unique components of the treatment that sets it apart from other therapy modalities. Out-of-session coaching was designed in DBT to support clients with generalizing the coping skills learned in therapy to external contexts where the skills are needed to be applied. In this webinar, we will explore the logistics for implementing planned and impromptu out-of-session coaching calls to expand your practice and better support clients, in both DBT and non-DBT treatment settings. You will learn how to structure coaching calls succinctly to promote goal-focused and effective outcomes in coaching calls with clients. You will learn principles to promote its use by clients, while setting appropriate limits to phone coaching services to prevent therapist burnout. All participants will receive a handout on how to introduce and structure phone coaching with your clients.

Participants will learn:

1) The function of phone coaching in DBT, and how this can be applied to clients participating in DBT and other psychotherapy modalities.

2) How to be brief, concise and goal-focused in coaching calls, and how to use it effectively to promote improved outcomes in your clients’ psychotherapy treatment.

3) The logistics (e.g. guidelines, fees, etc.) for implementing phone coaching as a part of your practice, whether working in public or private practice settings.
